New Year, Low Calorie Cocktails from Dirty Martini
Forget dry January. Dirty Martini has the (guilt free) answer.
Dry January? Post-Christmas alcohol abstinence? Heck, if you’re going to get through those soul-destroying gym sessions you’ve committed yourself to, you need a little carrot at the end of your stick. Thankfully, the clever guys and girls at Dirty Martini have whipped up six body-loving, superfood infused cocktails that are as delicious, as they are free from any sort of guilt whatsoever. At less than 220 calories each, you could switch up your morning Costa and still be in the calorie count black (and with 8 in 10 of us promising ourselves that this year will be the year that we finally we nail our diet, we’re doing a mini Mexican office wave at the news of dieting and being able to indulge in a little drink).
If you’ve already fallen flat on that everyday workout resolution, it’s worth noting that these saintly six are so-called for a reason, featuring foodstuffs such as bee pollen (linked to better health and weight loss assistance) as well as fresh ginger, beetroot, coconut water and Green Matcha tea. So whilst your conscience may be troubled by your lack of workout, you can squeeze in some penance with carefully selected ingredients. Oh, and if you’re particularly troubled by your fitness fail, you may want to join the growing number of people who are doing ‘Veganuary’ – and be part of efforts to top the estimated 23,831 animal lives saved last year by this movement (Veganuary).
These cocktails are going to be featuring in Dirty Martini bars in London and Cardiff throughout January (Dirty Martini bars in London can be found at Bishopsgate, Clapham, Covent Garden, Hanover Square, Monument, Islington, St Paul’s and Minories).
Without a further ado, it’s now time to introduce the Saintly Six…
The Fixer Upper – 215 calories – Vegan
The Fixer Upper, with cherries, raspberries and apple juice must surely count as one of our five our day, mustn’t it? And if you’re feeling peckish from your diet, the garnish of vegetable chips might be welcomed.
Belvedere Pure Vodka, and Monin Ginger Syrup with pressed apple juice, beetroot juice, fresh lemon juice, muddled raspberries, cherry bitters and celery salt – finished with a flourish of vegetable chips.
The La Lustre – 187 calories – Vegan
We’re lusting after La Lustre and you can even eat the flower garnishing (if you’re juice dieting, we’re pretty certain flowers are on the allowed list).
Briottet Thé Vert Hibiscus, Briottet Créme de Violette, Akashi-Tai Sparkling Sake, La Dulci Colline Prosecco with orange blossom water and hibiscus flower syrup; topped with a sprig of lavender and a hibiscus flower.
The Rising Sun – 152 calories
The ultimate choice if you’re counting every calorie, The Rising Sun is the lowest of all six (but you’d never guess, as this ray of light amidst the post-Christmas blues includes scrummy syrup and citric powered yogurt).
Koko Kanu Coconut Rum, Akashi-Tai Ginjo Yuzushu Sake with Gomme Syrup, coconut water and Mediterranean citric powdered yogurt – completed with a rich red, powdered berry top.
The Ginger Elixir – 199 calories
The Ginger Elixir features the perfect superfood pairing between bee pollen and ginger (and the ginger is candied for a slight sugar hit – after all, with your new year/new you efforts, you deserve a sweet treat).
El Dia Blada Pisco, Thé Vert Hibiscus, bee pollen, Lemon Juice, Gomme and a candied Ginger on knot bamboo skewer.
The Good Goer – 212 calories
Perhaps the most perfect of all pick-me ups in terms of refreshment, this lime and pineapple treat is full of zing (just what’s needed for an after-work wake-up call, when the nights remain stubbornly dark).
Beefeater Gin, pineapple juice, fresh lime juice, egg white, organic agave nectar and a homemade tarragon syrup.
The Green Monk
This little beauty features the power of Green Matcha tea – which was a staple for Buddhist monks before entering battle (hey, if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us and we imagine that January Mondays feel pretty much like setting off for war anyways).
El Dia Blada Pisco, Green Chartreuse, Fresh Lemon Juice, Agave Nectar, Almond Milk and Egg Whites, finished with Fresh Mint, Green Matcha Tea Powder and light Sprinkle of Green Matcha Tea Powder.
